Welcome to Ottawa: Canada's capital city
On January 1, 2001, a new supercity was born. The 11 municipalities that made up the former Region of Ottawa-Carleton joined together to create an economic powerhouse that has defined itself as a leader in business, tourism and government.
One of the most significant changes in the city's
history is the dynamic growth of the technology sector. High-tech has
now surpassed the federal government as the leading employer in the city.
Ottawa has already secured its position as Silicon Valley North –
but the city is still experiencing rapid growth like never before.
But there's more to Ottawa than just high tech
Ottawa is beautiful and rich in cultural diversity. Home to 12 national museums, dozens of international festivals, world class hotels and convention facilities – and an extensive network of biking and walking paths – residents enjoy a high standard of living, clean streets and parks and a very low crime rate. Ottawa is just a four-hour drive from Toronto, two hours from Montreal, and minutes away from the best skiing and hiking in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.
After the Show
Wow, if you've never been to Ottawa – you're in for a special treat. Depending on what time of year your show is happening, Ottawa has a host of dining, sporting and nightlife venues for you to kick back and take a little time for yourself. In winter, we have the longest skating rink in the world, the Ottawa Senators hockey team, downhill and cross-country skiing. In the summer, take advantage of one of the world's most extensive cycling paths, cruise the Rideau Canal, go for a hike, take in a ball game or break out the in-line skates. Year round, the city boasts two high-energy nightlife zones – Elgin Street and the Byward Market – not to mention the countless restaurants, museums and theatres throughout the entire city. Ottawa certainly has something for everyone.
See you at the next EXPOCORP event!
